Self-adhesive bitumen membrane is a cold applied self-adhesive, flexible, waterproofing and sealing membrane made from rubber modified bitumen compound with tear resistant cross laminated polythene film on its upper side and removable silicone film on the underside.
Self adhesive bitumen membrane is a coreless waterproofing self-adhesive membrane where the upper facing acts as both reinforcement and protection. It is a 100 micron cross laminated polyethylene film, conferring dimensional stability, puncture resistance, breaking strength and temperature resistance. It has the following features:
-Cold applied, does not require any heating
-Easy, quick and clean to install
-Permanent flexibility and protection against water
-Effective water and vapor barrier
-Absorbs substrate movement
-Root resistant & Tear resistant
-does not contaminate ground water
Installation:
1. Substrate preparation: The substrate must be smooth, clean, and free from oil/grease and defects or irregularities which might damage the membrane. Use a wire brush or broom and remove dirt, dust or any other contaminants.
2. Priming: Apply (ASTM D-41) on the substrate and allow it to dry. Prime only the area which will be covered by the membrane in a particular working day. Primed areas not covered with membrane within 24 hrs., should be re-primed. The primer should be applied by brush or roller at a rate of 0.3~0.4 Ltr/sq.mt., depending on the porosity of the surface. No primer is required on metal or plastic surface.
3. Laying of Membrane: – All angles must be filled up with cement mortar or bitumen mastic. Prepare angles, edges, and corners, horizontal joints using strips of membrane for reinforcement and better adhesion of the membrane. Slowly and uniformly peel back the release film over a width of about 30cm. at the start of the membrane. Lay the adhesive side on the substrate and press it into contact.
Uniformly peel back the release film further simultaneously pressing the membrane firmly against the substrate with a cloth or soft brush starting at the center and going towards the edges to prevent the formation of bubbles. Adjacent rolls are aligned and overlapped minimum 50mm at side and 100mm at ends. The overlap should be pressed strongly using a rubber roller after removing the silicone release film.
Self-adhesive bitumen membrane should not be applied below – 5°C. It should not be exposed to weathering and protected suitably.
Self adhesive membrane- Flat Areas: 1.1m²/m² (Approx.) per layer with min.50mm Overlaps and min.100mm end laps. Average wastages: 2-3%.
(ASTM D-41) – Smooth Surface: 0.3-0.4 Ltr/m² (Approx.) will give a dry film thickness of 100 microns.
Self adhesive bitumen membrane comply with the performance requirements and tolerance level of UEAtc (European)
Union Technical Agreement) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials).
The rolls must be stored vertically in a covered area, away from direct sunlight, UV and other sources of heat. For best performance, the product should be used within 12 months from the date of production. Excessive exposure to sunlight and UV will result in the deterioration of the product quality.
Nominal roll length: 10m, 15m, 20m; Nominal roll width: 1m: Nominal thickness: 1.5, 1.6, 1.8, and 2mm
