First, bitumen 10/20 is a penetration-grade made from pure petroleum. Next, producers create it through vacuum bottom distillation and improve it by blowing hot air. Then, with a penetration range of 10 to 20 desi-millimeters and a softening point between 58°C and 66°C, this grade shows strong stiffness and long-lasting durability.
Many customers confuse bitumen 10/20 with oxidized 115/15 due to similar penetration numbers. However, the difference is significant. 115/15 has a softening point between 110°C and 120°C, while 10/20 is around 58°C–66°C. Also, 115/15 is used for industrial applications and cannot be applied in asphalt mix, unlike 10/20.
Bitumen 10/20 is commonly used in road construction for binder layers in hot mix asphalt, especially in regions requiring high-performance pavements. Its strong viscosity and stiffness offer better rutting and fatigue resistance, leading to longer-lasting roads with thinner layers.
Table of Contents
TogglePenetration: 10–20 dmm
Softening Point: 58°C–66°C
High viscosity and stiffness
Excellent fatigue and rutting resistance
Thermoplastic behavior (softens when heated, hardens when cooled)
These properties make 10/20 ideal for challenging climates and heavy traffic loads.
We supply bitumen 10/20 in 150–180 kg drums, jumbo bags, and bulk tankers. Unlike oxidized grades packed in 25 kg cartons or blocks, 10/20 packaging ensures easier handling and loading for road projects.
To begin with, bitumen 10/20 uses HS Code 27132000, which stands for petroleum bitumen. Additionally, its CAS Number is 8052-42-4, showing it matches petroleum asphalt. As a result, these standard codes make export and import processes easier and help businesses follow international trade rules.
Basekim guarantees quality by providing third-party inspections and batch test reports. Our bitumen 10/20 complies with ASTM and EN 12591 standards. Each shipment is verified for penetration, softening point, and viscosity before loading.
This grade offers significant performance advantages in road construction. Its hardness supports sustainable pavement design, reduces deformation, and lowers maintenance costs. Basekim also offers expert technical support for mix designs and project specifications
