Revolutionizing Greenhouse Gas Sequestration with Asphalt-Derived Sorbents Researchers at Rice University have introduced a new Gilsonite-based filter that captures carbon dioxide (CO₂) directly at natural gas wellheads. The innovation represents a major step in greenhouse gas sequestration and efficient energy production. The study, led by Professor James Tour, found that Gilsonite asphalt becomes a powerful […]
Gilsonite in self heating asphalt repair system Cracks in asphalt are a common sight, but a pain Gilsonite in self repair asphalt. It is expensive and because the roads need to be closed down for construction, traffic jams occur. Researchers at polymer institute of research and development in Turkey are working on a solution by […]

Bitumen project in Africa Bitumen project moving slowly due economic issue and rainy season in Africa. The pressure on road paving is increasing for a variety of reasons including climate change and rising average ambient air temperatures. Roads are not designed to withstand this, leading to early-life surface rutting and deformation that has to be repaired more […]
Gilsonite: A Breakthrough Material for Lithium Batteries Researchers at Rice University, led by chemist James Tour, developed an anode made from porous carbon derived from Gilsonite. This unique material demonstrated outstanding stability over 500 charge-discharge cycles. With a current density of 20 mA/cm², the Gilsonite-based anode shows promise for high-power, rapid-charge battery applications—charging fully in […]
